Commitment to Safe Sex Toys
LUVOQA is committed to selling only body safe and non-toxic* sex toys and accessories (e.g., lubricants/moisturizers, oils, and cleaning solutions).
LUVOQA complies with the seller standards set forth by the National Association for the Advancement of Science and Art in Sexuality Compact for Safe Sexual Products.
Summary of NAASAS Standards for Sellers
- Educate your consumers by listing the materials from which your products are made
- Promote non-toxic materials and demonstrate to your consumers the added benefit of safe products
*Toxic materials prohibited from inclusion in sex toys by NAASAS include phthalates, of which di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is classified by the US National Toxicology Program as "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen".
In addition to compliance with NAASAS standards, LUVOQA takes further measures to protect our customers.
Safe sex toys
LUVOQA only sells sex toys made from materials with a low degree of porosity (e.g., silicone) or no porosity (e.g., annealed glass, reinforced ceramic with a glaze finish, stainless steel, ABS plastic, and wood with a nonporous finish). Porosity is a measure of the void or empty spaces in a material. The more porous an item's materials, the more places bacteria can hide and reproduce. Sex toys made from materials with a high degree of porosity (e.g., jelly, PVC/Sil-a-Gel, TPE/TPR, and rubber/elastomer) are more difficult to clean and sanitize after use, which can present a health risk.
LUVOQA only sells lubricants/moisturizers that are paraben-free. Parabens are a class of preservatives widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. While parabens increase the shelf life of a product, there is ongoing debate as to whether or not they are toxic. Therefore, as a precaution, we do not carry items with parabens.
LUVOQA only sells lubricants/moisturizers that are glycerin-free. Glycerin, or more accurately glycerol, is a simple polyol or sugar alcohol compound that is widely used as a sweetener in food and humectant in pharmaceutical products to prevent the loss of moisture. While glycerol is a useful and non-toxic compound, there is ongoing debate as to whether or not it contributes to pH imbalance in the vagina when used in lubricants/moisturizers. Therefore, as a precaution, we do not carry items with glycerol.
We spend a lot of time researching brands, materials, production methods, and reading reviews to determine which products are safe and which have potential issues and need to be excluded from our selection.
